Using the S-OMC she prepared with Umesh, she built a modified electrode to sense chloramphenicol and nitroaromatics. This simple sensor can now be used to detect and quantify dangerous substances in complex matrices such as milk. Congratulations! The article can be downloaded for free from the Journal's website before December 23 using this share link: https://authors.elsevier.com/a/1V~tg3IQMP721I
10/27/17  New paper accepted in J. Phys. Chem. C. Takeshi was able to see 13C-13C correlations between different molecules grafted on MSN via DNP-SS-NMR at the Pruski group. This enables looking at interactions between different species on our surfaces paving the path to look directly at cooperative phenomena.
9/22/17  Sebastián's paper on 3D printing of chemically active materials accepted in ACS Catalysis! Our work shows for the first time how the simultaneous control of molecular structure and macrostructure can be used to understand, tune, and improve catalytic conversions. Way to go Sebastián!
9/25/17  Bosky defended her MS Thesis, she is now a new Master in Chemistry, Congratulations Bosky!
9/11/17  Tarek's paper gets into this week's cover of ChemSusChem. Congratulations!

8/2/17  Megan presenting a poster of her work with Dilini at the closing of SULI. She is leaving back to Tenesee and we wish her great success to finish her undergrad. It was a great pleasure to have her around!
7/27/17  Dilini, Bosky and Pranjali presenting their awesome research at Nano@Iastate. Great Job! That is awesome girl power! Dilini was runner up at the poster competition: way to go Dilini!
7/21/17  Welcome to Dr. Hui Zhou as a new postdoctoral researcher in our group. He comes from Columbia University and will work with us and the Sadow group on degradation of lignin materials.
7/17/17  Fred's paper on measurement of O-H bond lengths via DNP SS-NMR is in the cover of the current issue of Angewandte Chemie International Edition. Congratulations!
7/17/17  New paper accepted in ChemSusChem. Work by Tarek Alammar and Anja Mudring on the low temperature synthesis of solid solutions of Sr/BaSnO3 perovskites using ionic liquids and their use in selective photocatalytic oxidation reactions. Congratulations!
6/21/17  New paper accepted in Angewandte Chemie International Edition. Collaboration with the Venditti group measuring the thermodynamics and kinetics of binding of phenol onto ceria nanocubes using dark state saturation transfer and relaxation dispersion measurements on sol-gel stabilized nanoparticles. These measurements help us understand better the dynamics of our catalytic transformations. Congratulations!
5/30/17  Welcome to Megan Schlinsog. Megan just finished her sophomore year at Southern Adventist University, TN majoring in Chemistry and Math. She will be working with Dilini developing materials with controlled nanoenvironments and characterizing their properties. Looking forward for an exciting summer!
5/12/17  New paper accepted in Angewandte Chemie International Edition. Work with Fred Perras at the Pruski group demonstrating the use of DNP-SS-NMR for measuring O-H bond lengths in heterogeneous catalysts with sub-pm precision! Congratulations!
4/26/17 The new labs are almost ready for moving. Take a peek at how they look right now:
4/3-6/17 Dilini presenting our work on quantitative control of interfacial polarity at the 253rd ACS National Meeting in San Francisco, CA. Well done Dilini!
3/30/17 Congratulations to Bosky for getting the ISU Teaching Excellence Award! Great job Bosky!
3/27/17 Our collaborative catalysis work on rare earth complexes supported on MSN with Sadow and Pruski groups featured in the cover of Organometallics
2/14/17 Yet another patent awarded for Kapil's work! This one is based on the use of iron-based catalysts to produce green diesel (ref 38). Congratulations Kapil!
1/31/17 A patent has been awarded by the USPTO for our adsorbent-catalytic nanomaterials. Great work of Kapil (see ref 37), congratulations!
1/30/17 Ceria nanocubes are highlighted in Ames Lab's #Materials on Mondays.
1/21/17 New paper in PhysChemChemPhys in collaboration with the Pruski group. We explored the spatial distribution of grafted silanes as a function of synthetic conditions. Distances were derived from Si-Si DNP SSNMR correlations.
1/17/17 Nick's latest paper is published in J. Catal. We report on a new method to increase the number of surface binding sites on ceria via high temperature reaction with sodium salts. Upon supporting Pd the material has enhanced transfer hydrogenation activity and holds great promise for greener conversions of biomass related compounds. We had great help from Pranjali, and awesome collaboration from the Rossini and Smith groups. Conrgatulations!

Principal Investigator: Igor Slowing

1/6/17 Nick's paper on modifying the surface of ceria with phosphates accepted in J Mater Chem A. The modification allows introducing Brønsted sites and tuning redox activity. Controlling the balance between Brønsted and Lewis (redox active) sites enables cooperativity to achieve dearomatization and C-O bond cleavage in lignin models. Great work of Nick with valuable help of Pranjali and Sebastián.
