Welcome to
The Slowing Group
at Iowa State University
and the Ames Laboratory
A delayed welcome celebration for Puranjan and Syded (March 2019) Puranjan was so much looking forward to getting his first visit to the mandatory Cafe B. that when the moment came, he forgot to bring his ID along! Anyways, we had the traditional pic with the Brazilian background!
Looks like Wei was getting a new best buddy...
...and Cindy was playing Bunny!
Celebration and Farewell to Sebastián (December 2018) Happy of Sebastián's accomplishment and ready to see him off to the next step in his path. Sharing this happy and sad time with his biological family, because we want to consider ourselves also part of his family! Kudos Dr. Manzano!
A welcome to Wei Shi and Yuchen Pei (October 2018) The official welcome for Prof. Wei Shi a visiting scientist for 1 year, and Dr. Yuchen Pei our new postdoc had to be in our beloved Beaudelaire. Only after a toast in cafe B. you are officially one of us, so great to have you guys in the group!
Looks like Nishant has already a new best buddy!
Ashish gave a nice surprise visit to Pranjali, and Yuchen was teaching Sebastián what is key to survive in Scotland!
Farewell to Hui (September 2018) After spending a bit over a year with us, Hui sure knew how to become part of our family (he also got lots of good results, I guess that helps ;) ). All our best wishes for his new stage at ETH Zürich.
SULI comes to an end (August 2018) Annie and Bevan did an awesome job! Of course the blame is shared with their great mentors: Pranjali and Sebastián, and all the help of the group. It was a great summer!
Folks got excited with the running (July 2018) Our coolest runners at Midnight Madness 5 K race!
A midsummer Nick's visit (July 2018) Everybody busy trying to fight the heat of summer.
The group running at the Iowa Trail Run Series (July 2018) María and Sebastián were the tough ones that made the 10 K, the others did a great 5 K.
Cindy is now 21!!! (June 2018)
Getting ready to watch the World Cup (June/July 2018) Football fever is in the lab and the bets are on!
Spring semester is gone, summer is here! (May 2018) And this is how close grad students get to it. ;)
(Pic by Cindy, who still knows what summer vacation means)
Our official "Desperately waiting for spring" party (aka Farewell to Jamie) (April 2018), finally some nice weather!!!
How many chemists (and how much time) does it take to put together a net?
Unfair volley-ball game: all versus Igor
Our "Windy" badminton champ: Jamie!
The undisputable queen of the day: Sanu
It was clear from the faces that we already ate good stuff!
Farewell to Bosky (March 2018), as she is moving to the Chicago area to start a job in heterogeneous catalysis at UOP-Honeywell. All of our best wishes to her (and our take home boxes from the restaurant ;) ).
Sebastián getting old (Feb. 2018). Big sister Dilini made some delicious cupcakes to celebrate Sebastián's 2... birthday, with the proper "Feliz Cumpleaños" 3D printed on top. All the evil planning of the event courtesy of Cindy.
